A positive attitude, sprinkled with Pinterest

I have been thinking a lot lately about having a positive attitude.

Positive. Attitude. Are two very over used words.

The stupid glass half full analogy is overrated and overused. The most negative people in the world often say they have a positive attitude (while we laugh under our breath). We hypocritically preach to others to think of the bright side when we know for a fact in the same situation we would be two Oreo sleeves in and watching the Notebook on repeat.

Here is what I think, correct me if I am wrong, women have become the biggest worriers. I know because I am one and I am friends with a whole bunch of ‘em. I think women these days often let our doubt & fears hold us back. We worry for everyone. We are so busy worrying and being scared that we have no time to be positive.

Does that make sense?

I hope so because I am getting to a point today I promise.

Last week before my run I was really worried.

Worried  I wouldn’t be able to run my race.
Worried I was injured forever & need a hip replacement (I over exaggerate for a living).
Worried I was going to have to quit running forever and be a failure (I wasn’t kidding about exaggerating).

Seriously these ridiculous things came to mind. Somehow, from the grace of God I woke up on Saturday in the best mood and decided that even if I got to run a mile that day, that was awesome enough.

Well shocking, the race went great. I felt good and my mind was in a wonderful place.

I am not saying this is going to happen every time. However, I will say that had I only been able to run ONE mile, I would have dealt with it much better because my mind was in the right place.

The power of your attitude is extraordinary.

The sad thing is I know it gets over looked. I for one take it for granted. I can only imagine the things I could do if I would stop worrying so damn much and just put my big girl pants on.

:)

I hear so many people tell me, “Oh god, girl you are crazy. I could never run that far.” Yes!!! you sure as hell can. Get your mind there and you can do anything.

I truly believe that.

So today think about this! Whatever your goals are for this year or for next, think more specifically about the attitude you need to get there, because we aren’t getting anywhere by worrying and doubting ourselves that’s for sure.

A great attitude... a great month... a great life

Happy Pinterest Tuesday!!!

Do you have any goals left for 2013? Tell me about them :)

  1. Amen sister! I'm a champion worrier (mostly with running.) I feel like because I'm so new into the game, that if I don't worry about every little thing and just take it as it comes, I will be surprised by some bad outcome. It's so silly and definitely doesn't make sense.

Great post! Love the last quote!

  2. Thanks so much for sharing this :) I'm a worrier (and a multiple plan planner) not just with running but so many other things. I try not to worry about the little things with running; granted, I have not so fun issue with my legs I have to be cautious with until it rears its ugly head enough to finally have surgery, but otherwise, I'm determined I'm gonna run a half marathon someday. Maybe not next year, but it will happen :)

    1. You will be a different person after a half!!! Running is so great and will give you so much but take your time. Injuries are not fun, I am sure. Do what is right for you :)

  4. I meant to comment on this yesterday but read it on my phone and for some reason it's a pain in the you know what to comment from there. Anyhoo, just wanted you to know I needed this reminder of positivity. Big changes are coming soon and I need to remind myself I'm doing the right thing and everything will be ok in the end :) xoxo

  5. "Get your mind there and you can do anything." I LOVE those words, Jessica!! I take barre class 4-5 times per week, and RIGHTTTTTT as I feel like I'm about to die, our teacher will yell out "HOLD FOR TEN MORE SECONDS, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING FOR TEN SECONDS!!" You truly can do anything that you put your mind to ... "mind over matter" as "they" say! I love how positive this post is. November (/Thanksgiving) always fills me with thoughts of being thankful and positive - I'm truly trying to make a change and be mindful of these things all of the time. Thank you for this <3

  6. Love this! I am SUCH a worrier, my husband always asks why I worry about things I can't control or things that don't concern me. One of the most annoying things is when someone says "I don't know how you do _____." I did it because I was determined to and if you were in the same situation, you'd be able to do it too. Great post!
